Bitcoin mining has emerged as one of the most important sectors in the bitcoin ecosystem. Bitcoin miners make up a large part of the capital formation in the space as well as being one of the most politically active in advocating for bitcoin at the local and federal level.

As a result, we have seen much interest from within the bitcoin space (and adjacent industries) in getting involved in the bitcoin mining community. 

Whether you are looking to increase your knowledge, connect with other miners, start mining yourself, or even change careers and join the bitcoin mining industry, we have you covered!

Get Informed

To begin, it's crucial to gain a solid understanding of what bitcoin mining is and how it works. This section will suggest some great informational resources to get you started down the path of learning about bitcoin mining. 

Books, Blogs, and Websites

We have several resources that we can recommend in the realm of the written word, beginning with our very own books and blog. Our introductory book; the Bitcoin Mining Handbook (which can be downloaded for free with physical copies available for purchase) was crafted with beginners in mind, taking the best introductory material from our blog and putting it all together in one small but valable package. If blogs are more your thing, ours features both beginner friendly pieces and deep-dives into the key trends and topics within the industry. This is a particularly popular post.

In terms of other text based web resoureces, Bitcoin Mining Resources has a great blog in addition to a directory of other bitcoin mining related resources while Blockware Intelligence features great analysis on various topics within the bitcoin mining space.  

Last but certainly not least, check out the Bitcoin Whitepaper by Satoshi Nakamoto which features a section on Proof of Work.

Audio & Video

There is plenty of other fantastic bitcoin mining related content too. Compass Mining’s The Mining Pod features interviews with industry experts as well as news roundups. Sticking with podcasts, POD256 hosted by Bitcoin Park co-founder Rod and home mining extraordinaire Econoalchemist features interviews, discussions, and bitcoin mining news. The BitBuyBit podcast also runs a monthly mining focused episode called Pleb Miner Monthly. Other general bitcoin podcasts such as What Bitcoin Did, Stephan Livera Podcast, and TFTC often feature discussions about bitcoin mining. Citadel Dispatch also features several episodes that are focused on bitcoin mining.

If video is more your thing, our favourite video creator in the bitcoin mining space is Nicholas Johnson who runs a channel called Space Design Warehouse. His well-produced videos document his journey getting started with bitcoin mining. Much-loved bitcoin-only content creator Ben Perrin also has a great tutorial on how to use a bitcoin miner as a space heater at home. The Voskcoin channel also features videos focused on bitcoin mining but you will have to sift through a lot of altcoin mining related content to find it. Last but not least, the Home Bitcoin Mining Immersion channel features content covering mining at home with immersion cooling technology.


Most of the industry’s news organisations such as Bitcoin Magazine, The Miner Mag, Coindesk, and Cointelegraph cover mining news extensively. These are great for keeping up with the latest happenings within the industry.

Online Tools & Data

Having access to data & tools is essential for gaining a deeper understanding of how bitcoin mining works. Here are some indispensable tools and essential data to check out:

Individuals and organisations are what make up an industry so we've curated a list of companies and people that you should learn about and follow to get you started: 

  • Public mining companies: publicly listed bitcoin mining companies such as Riot Platforms, Marathon Digital Holdings provide monthly operational reports which are essential reading for those who want to understand the economic and financial aspect of bitcoin mining more deeply.
  • Off-Grid Mining: This is one of the sectors of the bitcoin mining industry that is most interesting. Bitcoin mining is a highly mobile and flexible consumer of energy. Miners also seek the cheapest possible energy which has led to the flourishing of mining with wasted and stranded energy. Follow these companies and individuals to learn more about this fascinating sub-sector of bitcoin mining:

The block rewards are the friends we made along the way. With that in mind, here's where the community mostly hangs out. Now go make some friends!

  • X (formerly known as Twitter): This is where the overall bitcoin community appears to be most active. Within the general discussion about bitcoin there are a lot of people posting about bitcoin mining. We’ve listed some of them previously in this article, follow those to get started and, as you spend time on X, you will discover others in the mining community. 
  • Telegram Groups: There is plenty of interesting discussions happening on Telegram with miners sharing experiences and asking each other questions. Join the following groups and channels to get involved; Home Mining Wizards, Miners Peak, Braiins News, and Oil, Gas, and Bitcoin.
  • Reddit: Participate in Reddit communities such as r/BitcoinMining These subreddits foster discussions, troubleshooting, and knowledge sharing among miners.
  • BitcoinTalk: One of the first places online where those interested in bitcoin congragated and discussed bitcoin. It's fun to go back and look at historic posts such as the announcement of the launch of what is today known as Braiins Pool. There is a mining topic sub-forum.
  • NOSTR: Many bitcoiners regularly use this decentralised protocol which is similar to Twitter in terms of user experience but with no central party controlling your speech.

Get Started Mining Bitcoin

In addition to all the knowledge you will have gained by spending time studying the resources shared so far in this article, you will also need to acquire some bitcoin mining hardware in order to mine some bitcoin yourself. Here are some companies that sell both new and used mining equipment:

  • Kaboomracks sells both used and new equipment. They have a great reputation and a team that is well known in the bitcoin mining industry. If you attend bitcoin conferences, you are bound to have run into their team.
  • Altair Technology not only sell mining equipment, but they are also avid testers and tinkerers. They share their knowledge and results of said tests on their Twitter account. 
  • JSBit also sell both new and used hardware and they are a strategic wholesale partner of MicroBT and Bitmain.

Get a Job in Bitcoin Mining

For those looking to turn their passion for Bitcoin mining into a career, there are several avenues to explore within the sector. From hardware maintenance and optimization to software development, the industry offers a range of job opportunities. Companies engaged in mining operations often seek skilled professionals in fields such as electrical engineering, software development, data analysis, marketing, finance, HR, and more. While most companies (start with those mentioned in this article) have their own careers pages, a lot of bitcoin company jobs, including those at bitcoin companies, are advertised on Bitcoiner Jobs and Bitcoin Jobs.

Meet Other Miners IRL

Attending conferences and events allows you to network with fellow miners, learn from experts, and stay updated on the latest trends. Here are some conferences and events to consider attending.


Bitcoin mining specific conferences have been growing in popularity over the last few years with several new conferences which heavily feature bitcoin mining topics having launched.

Several of the larger general bitcoin conferences have also increased the focus they put on bitcoin mining, in large part thanks to the importance this sector has on the overall bitcoin space. Expect to get plenty of mining content if you attend the Bitcoin Conference, Bitcoin Amsterdam, Baltic Honeybadger, and  BTC Prague.

Any meet up in states where there is heavy bitcoin mining presence is bound to have bitcoin miners attending. We recommend checking out meetups in Texas particularly for this reason. Start with the Houston and Austin meetups if you’re ever in those cities.
